A mature woman for sophisticated products

Who is this woman?
It's Lilo! Lilo Sallinger, who wants to be part of “a beautiful project“. As CEO of the IRSA company in southern Germany, this is not the first time she has been involved in research and science.
IRSA researches, develops, produces and markets unique and innovative products for surface protection. These products are used on floors, aircraft, woodwork, boat superstructures and much more.
After several discussions, Lilo, Morgan and Frank together selected oils and varnishes from the IRSA line that protect the interior from moisture and UV rays.
As these products are mainly used indoors, the focus was on environmental and health compatibility: All products are biodegradable and solvent-free.
We pay particular attention to the oils we will use to treat the historic wooden floor of the Berlin City Palace. We are currently testing in extreme temperature and weather conditions, from -22°C to +70°C, sometimes wet, sometimes very dry.

Rainer has been part of our project since April 2020. He is responsible for the interior decoration such as the seats, the wall covering, etc ... But he also takes part in all the other work on the boat.

Jeannie is our English translator. All the texts that you will find on our website or our films have been translated into English by her. We are very happy to have her with us.

January 2020, Station and analyse

In order to be able to carry out some of our research tasks, we need a water analysis station. We checked who was the supplier of the “Polastern” and discovered the company SubCtech from Kiel (Germany).
General Manager Stefan Marx was welcoming and warm, and we learned from Konstantin, an employee at SubCtech, everything we needed to know. Analyzing seawater, salt content, pH, temperature, microplastics, nitrate, Co² and turbidity during our round the world trip, this complete system is a relevant investment, costing a trifle, between 70,000 and 100,000 euros. So we still need a little “money”!
For exhibition purposes, SubCtech was kind enough to lend us a simplified system.

Britta is a director, television journalist and author. It is always easy and fun to work with her.

And the nominee for directing goes to…!

Britta and her film crew have been collaborating on our project for over a year. In May 2019, we filmed our first report to present FYD-Adventure, not only the project but also some of our members that were on the scene that day.
We produced a second report together, filmed at Enno Roggemann in Basdorf bei Berlin (Germany) where we took the opportunity to highlight the story behind the historic old wood taken from the Berlin Palace.
The day we filmed our second video turned out to be the occasion for a pleasant reunion full of anecdotes of all kinds. Mr. Jürgen Lühmann, (Authorized signatory of Enno Roggemann) who so kindly always finds the time for us despite his busy schedule, accompanied us in his company. On site, we had an adorable on camera interview with Karlchen, the son of Cindy and Gregor (partners of FYD-Adventure), who thoroughly enjoyed explaining what he had learned during his visit.
A third film was shot again in Kienitz North, where Britta and her team were able to admire the progress made on the construction of the expedition yacht.
Mr. Wilhelm von Boddien (director general of the association for the reconstruction of the palace of Berlin - Humboldt Forum), also present on this occasion, made a passionate declaration in front of the camera!

“I like the pioneers. I like people who do something unusual. We meet so many cold people in this world, and so many others who are afraid to move forward. And when they manage to get a certain reputation, then they do everything to protect it ... What I like about Frank is that he doesn't care about his reputation. He is building a ship for navigating high seas here in the dapper corner of the Oderburg and has to tear down a wall in his studio to put it in the water. It’s just happy and fun!”

After creating this series of reports together, we look forward to any chance to work with Britta and her team again. In fact, we have already planned to shoot our fourth film at the end of May 2020. Lights, camara, action!

The living room and pantry are slowly taking shape. The parquet floor is the result of the work done by the company Enno Roggemann using the old pillars from the foundation of the Berlin Palace.
At the time these photos were taken, Mr. Wilhelm von Boddien, director of the association for the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace (Humbolt Forum) had taken the time to come visit us.

Anke is a graduate who is interested in absolutely everything that is going on in the world. It is for this reason that she entered our project. It’s wonderful to see how she adds so much of her versatility into our adventure.

Jasmin has been actively involved in our project for a year and a half. She has worked on all the different construction phases. On her way to continue her work on the boat, a little bird named “Certhia Brachydactyla”, who had fallen from the sky, takes the opportunity to rest for ten minutes by her side!

July 2019, 200m on circular saw

I believe the world record for cutting 100m with a circular saw is still 9.58s.
Unfortunately, we are not quite that fast. However, in under six hours Cindy managed to get in about 200 m with the plywood circular saw. We think that is a pretty good average!

January 2019, two old friends, Sven and Frank

When we talked to Sven about our project, he was ready to participate actively from the get-go. For a trip of this magnitude - a 10-year research project while sailing around the globe - the ropes will be a key element and naturally, will be required in abundance. Ten years of UV exposure while sailing almost 113,500 nautical miles means the equipment will be put through the ultimate test.
Manufacturers seldom have the opportunity to conduct long-term testing of this scope. Our project is the perfect opportunity to test new textiles in cooperation with Liros, and to evaluate the results firsthand alongside the experts.
We are thrilled to get to work with Sven and his staff.

May 2019, discussion over a French breakfast in Kienitz-Nord

Through contact with the company Enno Roggemann, Mr. Wilhelm von Boddien learned that the FYD-Adventure organization have plans to incorporate part of the ancient and historic wood from the Berlin Palace into the construction of the expedition yacht. He finds the idea intriguing, and the humanitarian message behind the project especially interesting. After numerous telephone conversations, Frank succeeds in getting Mr. Von Boddien to accept an invitation to visit the ship's construction site in Kienitz-North (Germany).
As it often happens, a meal provided the perfect setting for the passionate explanation provided by the FYD crew on how the precious material, so rich in history, would be used onboard the ship.
The faces here say it all. The meeting was a success and Mr. Von Boddien was warmly welcomed on board.

May 10, 2019, discussion taking place about reusing historic wood reclaimed from a piece of Germany’s cultural heritage.

In April 2013, Enno Roggemann, one of the most important wood suppliers in Germany, acquired at auction a large part of the old pillars taken from the foundation of the Berlin Palace. After careful work, the company succeeded in transforming the wood into high-quality parquet.
A few years later, at a chance encounter on the company premises, Frank and Jürgen, Authorized signatory at Enno Roggemann, met and came up with a brilliant idea: Why not make this historic wood part of the FYD-Adventure expedition yacht? Bring the wood back to life, a second life, by integrating it into a project which would take it to the four corners of the Earth. Almost as soon as the idea was born, it became a reality as the company, Enno Roggemann, provided the necessary parquet free of charge.
The support provided by partner Enno Roggemann to the FYD-Adventure organization has been essential to the construction of the yacht by also supplying solid wood and plywood, for which we are enormously grateful.
